Saint Luke explains how the story of Jesus begins with Elizabeth and Zechariah.
The Prophet recalls how Mary’s story reminds him of Hannah in 1 Samuel.
Elizabeth becomes pregnant, and an angel delivers surprising good news to Mary.
Mary visits Elizabeth and proclaims that her soul magnifies the Lord!
Baby John is born, and Zechariah regains his speech. The neighbors are scandalized by the whole business.
The Prophet consults his sources.
Luke is delighted! So much love and joy and poetry in the story so far!
Then Saint Matthew shows up. Who is this guy?
Matthew says Jesus is just like Moses, because an evil king tried to kill them both when they were babies. Luke says… what?
King Herod is SO BORED, despite her committed court jester.
Wise Ones from the East visit Herod’s court, with a star and a camel. They have come to honor the newborn king!
But Herod has no new son… She sends the Wise Ones off to find the baby, and directs her guard to get rid of it.
The angel warns the Wise Ones not to go back to Herod – and tells Mary to flee to Egypt!
The guard comes to try and kill the babies of Bethlehem – and Luke can’t take it anymore.
Luke and Matthew argue, and soon everyone else does too.
Elizabeth tells Herod to pick on somebody her own size.
More arguing!
And then… a mysterious caped stranger arrives. His name is… John?
What he’s saying sounds pretty weird. But it also seems like it’s about Jesus?
I guess everyone will have to read the different versions and figure it out for themselves!
