The first days…

IMG_1608We arrived in Dar es Salaam late on a  Tuesday night. Bishop Oscar and Oswald (who had flown ahead to visit family in Bukoba, Tanzania) met us at the airport. We stayed two nights at a large Catholic guesthouse on the edge of the city, not far from the port in a largely industrial zone. On Wednesday we toured Dar es Salaam a little. We visited the cathedral, St. Alban’s, and the Anglican seminary, where we met with seminarians from Newala diocese and heard from them about what they think the church in their diocese, and its people, really need.

Breakfast in Tanzania – tea (chai), with ginger (tangawizi, I love that word!) and sugar and milk (maziwa). Bread and Blue Band margarine. Sometimes eggs (mayai), or Africafe coffee (kahawa).
